1. SHIPPING TRANSPORT AND MARITIME LOGISTICS AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Typical ship operations can be divided into three areas:

❂ The steward’s department (cleaning and cooking)
SHIP’S OFFICER - Occupational code: 315202
❂ Assist the captain to navigate and control the operation of a ship
❂ Participate in controlling deck and bridge-watch activities
❂ Ensure safe loading and unloading of cargo
❂ Take care of the safety of the crew and supervise crew
2. ENGINEERING/ARTISANAL/TECHNICAL
MARINE ENGINEER - Occupational code: 315101
❂ Manage the operation and maintenance of the ship’s engine
❂ Manages all engineering related needs of a ship
❂ Manage, lead and develop personnel
3. PORTS, MARINE SERVICES AND COASTAL MANAGEMENT PORT SERVICES
DIVER - Occupational code: 684101
❂ Performs various underwater jobs using scuba gear or diving suit
❂ Repair harbour wall foundations
❂ Repair damaged ship hulls
❂ Check condition of marine accidents
MARINE SAFETY OFFICER - Occupational code: 325702
❂ Provide preventative measure to ensure safety at the sea or at ports
❂ Inspect vessels to ensure conformity to safety standards
❂ Review storage and operations areas to ensure they meet safety standards
❂ Give advice on environmental hazards
SHIP’S PILOTS - Occupational code: 315201
❂ Help in guiding ships when arriving or departing a port
❂ Advise captains of ships as they understand the local waters
❂ Control and participating in deck and bridge-watch activities
SHIPWRIGHTS - Occupational code: 315203
❂ Construct and repairs shipping vessels
❂ Uses all type of material to build ships
DECK HAND - Occupational code: 735101
Performs these tasks at a support level:

❂ Controls the operations of a freight or passenger ship at management level
❂ Navigating ships in and out of ports
❂ Manage Security Procedures and Contingency Plans on-board a ship
SHIP’S ENGINEERING OFFICER
❂ Support role to the marine engineer
❂ Responsible for all the electrical and mechanical maintenance of the ship
❂ Operating all mechanical equipment from engine, pumps refrigeration and air conditioning

❂ Overall control of a port
❂ Control shipping traffic at a port
❂ Manage lighthouses and vessel tracking systems
❂ Enforce harbour regulations
